Frequently Asked Questions and Other Information

USAT Sanctioned: Tri for a Cure will be a USAT sanctioned event. There will be officials at transition and throughout the racecourse; making sure that all USAT rules are followed in accordance with their guidelines. If you are not familiar with these rules, please go to http://usatriathlon.org/pages/1684 and scroll to download rules. This page will also provide valuable information on race etiquette, training, and membership.

Field Limited: Tri for a Cure is limited to 800 athletes.

Registration: Registration will be offered online ONLY. Registration will start at midnight February 6, 2010. All athletes are required to sign the USAT waiver which is done automatically when you register online

  • Individual athletes – registration includes a one day USAT membership.
  • Relay Teams – only ONE person should sign up the night of registration as the team captain. Starting the next day the rest of the team will be able to sign up using the online registration form, selecting "Join a Relay Team", find their team name and complete the registration process.

Packet Pick-Up & Expo: Packet pick-up and the expo will take place on Saturday August 14th from 10am-2pm, at the SMCC campus. Packet pick-up will also be available from 12-1pm on race day at the race venue. We STRONGLY recommend checking in on Saturday to avoid any delays. All athletes, including relay team members, must be present to check in on one of the two days provided. Athletes MUST provide a picture ID (and current USAT card if registered as a member). Any athlete that already registered as a USAT member should bring their card to packet pickup to have the one day fee charged at registration credited to their donation total.USAT waivers will be available for any athlete that does not have one on file. Athletes will receive a packet with numbered swim cap, race number and timing chip. Athletes will also receive a goody bag filled with various items along with a race t-shirt. The expo will provide a wonderful opportunity for athletes to purchase last minute race items and learn more about tri related products and services

Relay Packet Pick-Up: We encourage ALL team members to check in as a team on Saturday, August 14th at the SMCC Campus. Each team member MUST present a picture ID (and current USAT card if they registered as a USAT member). Any team member that already registered as a USAT member should bring their card to packet pickup to have the one day fee charged at registration credited to their donation total. The swimmer will take the cap and timing chip. The runner will take the race number. ALL members of the relay MUST register in order for the relay to compete in the race. Check in will be available at the race venue on Sunday from noon-1pm for those team members unable to make it on Saturday to the Expo. Each team member will receive a goodie bag and t-shirt

Refund Policy: Maine Cancer Foundation is a registered (501)(c)(3) organization. There will be no refunds for this event. Your registration is NON TRANSFERRABLE.

Inclement Weather: Tri for a Cure will not be cancelled for any reason other than severe conditions that pose extreme danger to athletes and volunteers. Race management reserves the right to alter the course in any way they deem is in the best interest of the athletes and volunteers. This includes, but is not limited to, shortening or changing the course, removing one of the sports, postponing the start, etc. There will be NO REFUNDS in the case of changes or cancellations due to weather. If canceled, Tri for a Cure will not be rescheduled

Post-Race Activities: After the race, we will have a food tent for athletes free of charge. For spectators there will be food and drinks available for purchase. Spectators will enjoy the beautiful scenery and can cheer the women to the finish line. A post-race party along with an awards ceremony will be held.

Awards/Categories: Everyone is a winner at Tri for a Cure! Each athlete will be presented with an award upon crossing the finish line

Awards will be given in for the following categories in the race

  • Top 3 Survivors
  • Top 3 Overall Women
  • Top 3 Women in each Age Group (19 & under and every 5 years up to 65+)
  • Top 3 Overall Duathlon
  • Top 3 Overall Relay

Recognition will be given for the following

  • Top Ten Fundraisers
  • Poster Contest Winner
